Edinburgh Canal Festival 2011 – Flotilla going from Harrison Park to Lochrin Basin

Yesterday the fifth Edinburgh Canal Festival and Raft Race took place.? I was very lucky to observe the slow row to Tollcross with currach, the narrow boat Zazou Edinburgh & herd of kayaks on their way to town from my window. Zazou was very proud to be asked to lead the flotilla for the opening of the Edinburgh Canal Festival. Just before 12 noon I could hear the beautiful tune of a backpipe and I knew it must be the boats going to the Lochrin Basin. The Zazou boat going in front followed by a group of boats. It was amazing to see the canal so lively. There was a lot of traffic on and along the canal on this Saturday. Unfortunately after hours of sunshine the weather changed again and a big thunder storm started. The Canal Festival was great anyway. Respect to all the people that took part in the raft race. It was a pleasure to see Stan Reeves (Organiser of the Wee Boat Group, Tollcross Community Centre) who came along with one of the boats that were built at the Tollcross Community Centre. Two of my fellow ambassadors (Sue and Mo) have been there as well and had a really good day.

Good pics Susanne! That’s me in the bows of Jenny Skylark, holding onto Stan’s stern 🙂
